Chris Buerkley
Lead Vocals, Percussion
Chris started out in The
Seventh Stranger, a high school band that played in several battle of the
bands competitions and various Richmond-area small clubs and pizza joints.
From 1989 to 1991, he worked the local club circuit singing original material
and covers ranging from Duran Duran to Led Zeppelin. One of these projects was Chapter 11 which included
Rich Lehman and Mike LaBarre. Near the end of '91 Buerkley moved to Houston,
Texas, where he performed with two bands and gained his first experience
as an R&B frontman.
1996 saw Chris back in his hometown of Richmond
playing acoustic gigs with high school friend Chris Dabney. About
a year later, Dabney began prodding Buerkley to help him form a band. The
latter, looking for a change from his leather-clad past, insisted that it
would have to be a funk band. In the summer of 1997, he called Lehman and
LaBarre, to form SoulerCoaster.
